Am I Saved?

Romans 10:9–10 (NKJV)

9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

I think at the beginning of my walk the idea of salvation was rather confusing. I saw the words in the Bible that said if we confess with our mouth, that we believe… but, I was constantly thinking… what else? Think about it, nothing we have ever been given can even come close to what the Lord has chosen to give us freely. Call me a skeptic, but I was constantly looking for the catch.

We often get caught up with the word free and it usually ends up costing us more than we bargained for. Open your phone and get all the “free” games, until you want to get past the first level, interest-free financing for 365 days, but if you pay off that bill on the 366th day, be ready for an avalanche of interest, the list, of course, goes on and on. Free usually isn’t free. How great is our God? When He says all you have to do is believe and confess, it really means that all you have to do is, well… believe and confess.

Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. He is looking for us to believe His promise, that He is who He says He is. If we believe, our reward is eternal salvation.

Do we live a life in which we absolutely believe that God has saved us from punishment? It should be evident to those around us when we do. Our lives should reflect the Creator, in genuine thankfulness. If we believe with all of our heart that Jesus died and was raised, defeating death, the commandments He has for us should not be a burden.

If we are in complete surrender and wholeheartedly believe, we should be screaming from the mountaintops that Jesus is Lord. Our heart should be with those that have not come to Jesus yet. Let today be the day you reach out to that friend, let today be the day you witness to that coworker, let today be the day you show God’s awesome love to a family member. Most importantly though, be filled with joy that your mouth has confessed and your heart believes!

Closing Thoughts:

When it comes right down to it, we are very simple people. Because of this, God made salvation simple as well, we must believe and confess. Believe and confess that is it, no long list of requirements, no multiple-choice quiz… Believe and confess. If you have not turned your life over to the Lord completely, reach out to someone today that can help you do that. Salvation is for those who believe and confess.

1 Timothy 4:10 (NKJV)

10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.
