Battle Of The Mind

2 Timothy 1:7 ESV

7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

God does not give us a spirit of fear. In fact, he gives us peace, love, prosperity, a sound mind, and all things good. Anything opposite of that comes from the devil. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” This devouring can happen right in our very minds.

If we pay attention to the thoughts we have, we can almost label them from where they come from. The harsh critic in your head saying you are not good enough is a plot from the devil. The fear that you will fail is certainly not coming from God. God tells us not to fear over and over in the Bible. Perfect peace is what comes from God.

It might help to think of it as a battle between our thoughts. How many negative thoughts cross your mind in a day? How long do you dwell on them? How happy is this making the devil?

As children of God, we have the power to take control of our thoughts. We have been given a new life that can be filled with peace and love. We can change our “I can’t” to “I can” because all things are possible when in line with the Father’s will. When we begin to recognize the dark thoughts as what they really are, they begin to no longer have as strong of a hold on us. We know where they’re coming from and know to give them to God.

Closing Thoughts:

James 4:7 tells us to resist the devil and he will flee from us. We can actively work to take every thought captive, making it obedient to the Lord. This doesn’t mean fear won’t arise at times, but it means it will not overtake us. It means we will know to turn to the Lord and not let the devil have his way. Below are scriptures to meditate on today:

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Isaiah 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

2 Corinthians 10:5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

2 Corinthians 2:11 So that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.
