Romans 8:38–39 (NKJV) 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
By now, most of us have been introduced to terms such as social distancing and quarantine. This is our current reality. While I wish we could just speak it out of existence, we cannot and must face this new way of life. Stores allowing only a few people in at a time, churches shut down almost completely, and those lucky enough to still be working are doing so from home. I am fairly certain if you asked any of us if this would be our reality six months ago, none of us would have guessed it. Here we are, we can either complain or make the most of it. We may not be able to visit friends, we may not be able to go to non-essential stores, and our churches are empty, but we are promised that nothing can separate us from the love of God and that is a promise we must hold on to! What To Do When You Can’t Do Anything Pray! Luke 5:15–16 reminds us that Jesus sought out time to pray even when there were hundreds of people around… (15) However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. (16) So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed… If Nothing else, quarantine gives us that much needed quiet time with the Lord. Take this time to develop a better prayer life! Study During this time of endless despair, it is important to find hope. Romans 15:4 promises… (4) For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope… We have a lot of free time. Is it time you are using to study God’s word? It is said that new behaviors become automatic after about two months, if you start today, you will be well on your way to making studying a habit… a very good habit. Listen Romans 10:17 advises… (17) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God… The absolutely amazing thing about quarantine that nobody is talking about is that it has forced regular services to be posted online. The amount of sermons available to listen to is about to explode. Take this time to listen to your own pastor, but also take the time to listen to others. By taking the time to listen to other pastors, you encourage those who are putting considerable effort into this offering and you may also get to see a portion of scripture in a completely different light than you have in the past. Of course with this, you will want to use the gift of discernment. This too can be a positive because hearing something that does not sound right can send into a thorough study of scripture. Studying is never a bad thing! Discussion Proverbs 12:15 illustrates perfectly our need for discussion among believers… (15) The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise… Whatever it is you are studying, pondering, or struggling with, make sure you are seeking discussion with other more seasoned believers. Good positive discussion can lead to wisdom. This would be a perfect time to start discussion groups. Make Time With God A Priority Hebrews 11:6 (6) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him… God is not looking for a part-time believer, He wants our full attention. He wants a full-time follower. If we are diligently seeking Him, we will be praying, we will be studying, we will be listening and then we will be eager to share what we have learned to our friends. Today is the perfect day to start seeking Him with the diligence He deserves. Closing Thoughts: We can either sit on the couch and be bored out of our mind with this isolation or we can make a positive out of it. Starting today, seek the Lord like you never have before. Together we will defeat this virus, with Him, we can change the world! Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV) 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
