Matthew 24:4 ESV

4 And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray.”

From the teachings Jesus gave us, we know ahead of time that deception will be rampant until He returns. From this scripture, we can understand that the deception will only increase and become more difficult to see through. It can be a hard topic to discuss, but I thought it was important to touch on this week to make sure we are all ready.

Matthew 24:24 says that if possible, the false prophets will be able to deceive even the elect. This means everyone is at risk when it comes to falling for traps. It can be easy to think we as Christians aren’t susceptible. We may say that nothing will take our eyes off God, but we must not let this cause our guard to go down. We must not think we are in the clear and untouchable from the tricks of the enemy. We are all susceptible.

In order for these traps to deceive even the elect, I picture it to be very insidious. It may come from areas we are not expecting. We won’t even realize it. It may start by seeping through the cracks without us even knowing it’s entered, something we may think is innocent or something we aren’t giving much thought to.

With the increase in deception as time goes on, it is increasingly important that we stay in God’s word, in prayer, and listen to the Holy Spirit. This is how we can stay protected. God is the only way to stay safe and we need to trust His word above all else. Constantly comparing our situations to His word can give us insight. Praying and asking the Holy Spirit can give us clarity.

Closing thoughts:

How grateful are we that God warned us of this? We now know to keep our guard up and keep watch. All of His teachings are valuable and worthy of praise. Let us rejoice in Him!

Matthew 24:11 ESV

11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.

Matthew 24:24 ESV

24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
