Do Everything In Love

1 Corinthians 16:14 (CSB)

14 Do everything in love.

I was looking through verses about love today and came across this one. Is there a message that is better for today? I think not! I love the simplicity of this verse and feel that it could not have popped up at a better time. If we look around the world we live in today, the thing that is truly missing is the one thing that can heal our divided nation and world… love. Love is the answer.

Yes, everything! Do everything in love. It is a simple yet complex command. We face a number of different struggles from day to day that can set the tone for our entire week. Have a business meeting that has the potential of going south? Have a cranky teenager? Have a demanding spouse? An even more demanding coach? How much different is the outcome when we deal with everything in love? Love can change the negative circumstance to produce positive results. So, yes, everything should be done in love!

Why Love?

1 John 4:19 reminds us… (19) We love because he first loved us… Think about what we are being called to, we are being called to love everyone. That hateful neighbor that is always ready to fight, we must love them. That co-worker that knows everything about everything, we are commanded to love them too. It is easy (most of the time) to love our children, our spouse, and our family, but do you find it hard to love your enemy? Most of us do, this is not a trick question. After all, they are your enemy for a reason, right? How do we love such a person? I believe the answer is two-fold. Romans 5:8 reminds us what we looked like before Jesus removed our sins… (8) But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us… If we really look at how far short we have fallen of our righteous goal, that enemy, his or her sin towards us probably does not look as bad as it once did. If God forgives us of our sins, we must be willing to do the same for others.

The other reason for loving one another… we are all His children. When we sin toward any particular person, we are sinning towards His child! If we want to experience God’s love and grace, we must be willing to pour that same love and grace upon His children… no matter how hard that may be.

What The World Needs Now

The world needs us Christians to step up and demonstrate the love of Christ. 1 John 4:7 reminds us… (7) Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God… God knows our hearts, He knows whether or not we are truly His. How does the world know this though? Through the love we should be pouring out! We must be Christ for those who are not of Christ, so that they may experience Christ. What is going to change the world? Love!

Closing Thoughts:

The world needs to see and experience the love of Christ. Everything we do, everything we say, should express the love Christ has for everyone. Let everything we do be done in love!

Mark 12:29–31 (NKJV)

29 Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
