Do Good

Galatians 6:10 (NKJV)

10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

I believe there are far more good people in this world than there are bad. I fully understand sin abounds in every corner of the globe, but there are a ton of good people left. You may not know them by name but you see them. You see the guy helping a little old lady load her groceries into the car. You see the youth coach volunteering out of the kindness in his heart. You see people working tirelessly to raise money to this charity or that. Good people are everywhere.

As believers, we are being commanded to doing good works. If we are to deliver the Gospel effectively we are going to have to stand out from the world. How do we do that? We do that through love. We do that by doing good to all. That is the tough part, is it not? We must be willing to do good for all. Not just the ones we like. Not just those who we are comfortable with. We are commanded to do good for all, even your enemy.

What Does Doing Good Look Like?

Love. We need to love those around us enough to care. Do you ask how your co-worker is doing when they are clearly upset? Or do you avoid the conversation because it may be awkward? Our lives are busy, we run and run. We must take the time to make sure those around us feel the love of Christ through us. We cannot do that by avoiding conversation, even when it is awkward.

Generosity. You do not have to give all your money to every non-profit asking for it to be generous. Do you provide your time? Do you provide a helping hand? Do you offer your expertise? Do you offer prayer? All of these things are every bit as important as money.

Dedication. If you are completely sold-out for Christ, good works are sure to follow. As you become closer and closer to the Lord you will start to know His heart more. You will care about His children more and more. You will feel for the lost more than ever before.

Closing Thoughts:

To be effective in spreading the Gospel, we must look very different than the world. We must love those around us with generosity and dedication. Love those around you enough to do good.

James 2:26 (NKJV)

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
