Proverbs 11:27 (NKJV) 27 He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil.
Deep down inside, every Christian wants to find favor with God. It is quite natural to desire this approval from the Lord. We may not always find that favor because of the mistakes we make, but at the end of that day, that is what we are seeking. That is why we pray, it is why we study His word, it is why we continually seek His guidance. We desire that favor now, and we will certainly want that favor when we move from this life into eternity. How do we find favor with God? Earnestly Seek Good James 1:5 reminds us… (5) If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him… If we are to seek good, we should seek wisdom from the One that determines such things. We should be seeking to understand His Word, His commandments, His guidance, and His wisdom. I know it is a constant theme with this devotional, but deep study is the key to seeking good. Through His Word, we can find answers to any question we may have. Isaiah 1:16 even instructs us to wash our hands and make ourselves clean, pretty novel idea! We can find good biblical counsel in well… the Bible! Trouble Will Come Pretty simple idea here, to those who seek evil, trouble will come. When we were children, we always tried to get away with anything we could. Well maybe you guys were perfect children, but I would almost look for trouble. I may not have been exactly seeking evil, but regardless, I looked for trouble, and trouble is what I found most of the time. We need to quickly erase all evil actions, all evil thoughts, and all evil temptations from our life. When we lead a life that is not continually seeking evil, trouble will come less and less. Who Do You Surround Yourself With? 1 Corinthians 15:33 offers… (33) Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” So true is it not? Think about it, at an early age, were we not easily influenced by the people we were around? At home, there was an exception that I would behave myself. Out in public with friends, I allowed negative influence to corrupt my good habits. We must choose to surround ourselves with like-minded Christians that help support your Christ-like character. We must reach into the world to interact with the lost for several reasons, but we must understand the influence the world has on us and do everything we can to stay on our path. Closing Thoughts: Seek good and find favor or seek evil and find trouble… it seems like a very easy decision to me. Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
