Matthew 4:18-20 NAS
18 "Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 And He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him."
I clearly remember when Jesus called me to follow Him; it was in December of 1999. He called me to follow Him to a place where my life would be forever changed. I entered the doors of a building that I felt compelled to go into, I had never been there before, and I wasn't sure what the building was used for, but I soon learned that it was a very special place. Once inside the front door, I was greeted by a man, who welcomed me and asked me if I wanted a tour of the building and I said yes, I do. As we walked through the long, sterile corridors, I saw lots of people, many faces, withered with age and yet such peaceful appearances, it was comforting to me.
With only a week before Christmas, I started a new job and a new life, and soon after, with the love I received from my new friends, I became Born Again! "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy he has given us (me) new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish spoil or fade." 1Peter 1:3-4a NAS
God called me out of a difficult and troubling time into His light and love. He called me to a people who Jesus talked about in His Sermon on the Mount, those who have nothing to give but their love, those who He identified in the Beatitudes as being, "3 Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3-10 NAS.
Jesus asked me to follow Him to a people who still to this day teach me the love of Christ, who guide me and direct my steps, who humble me and challenge me to walk upright and remind me to count my many blessings. I thank God for that fateful day when He whispered in my ear to follow Him.
Has Jesus called you to follow Him? If so, then as stated in Philippians 1:6, "I am certain that God, who began a good work in you, will bring it to completion until the day of Jesus Christ." If not yet, I urge you to quiet your heart and ask Jesus to come into your life and He will lead you to salvation through His act of love.
Matthew 7:13-14 NAS
Keep in mind that He calls us to "13 Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it."
