Galatians 5:1 (NKJV)

1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

As we celebrate our country’s independence, there is an entirely different freedom we should celebrate… our freedom in Christ! Our Lord has made us free, not by anything we have done or any price we have paid, but through His grace and mercy. So as we celebrate the 4th of July, let us not forget the cost paid for our spiritual freedom!

We Have All Fallen

Romans 3:23 states… (23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God… The original sin was through Adam and Eve, but do we not multiply that sin on a daily basis? Sin may have originated with Adam and Eve, but we have certainly perfected it. Romans 1:30 even goes as far as to say we are “inventors of evil things.” We have a sinful nature that comes with a tremendous price.

The Price Paid

1 Peter 2:24 reminds us… (24) who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed… Is this not something we should be thankful for daily? Read that again, who Himself bore our sins… Through that sacrifice, we are healed.

Disentangle From The Bondage

Our forefathers paid a tremendous price to make us free, so too did our heavenly Father. Jesus has broken our bondage with sin. We no longer have to be tied to our sin, we no longer have to suffer in that way! The sins of the past have been paid for and forgotten. We can move forward in new life! Breakaway from the sin that has clung to you for years with the freedom Christ has already paid for!

New Life!

2 Corinthians 5:17… (17) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new… We are a new creation, the old man has passed away, do not allow past transgressions to deter your new freedom! All things have become new, a clean slate. Christ wants you to move forward in this life as a new creation, forget the past completely, and focus on what He has for you in the future!

Closing Thoughts:

We have a sin nature, we have a sinful past, but the Lord wants us to move forward as a new person. Past transgressions have been satisfied, there is no longer a reason to be tied to the bondage of sin. As we celebrate freedom as a country, take time to thank Jesus for the price paid for our spiritual freedom!

Galatians 5:13 (NKJV)

13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
