John 15:16 (NKJV)
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
Before we even approach this subject, let’s just give the Lord praise that we are even called to help Him spread the Gospel! One of the most amazing things in my life is being able to share the Word with many different people. If we think for one second that God “needs” our help, we may be just a little full of ourselves. Instead, we should come from the mindset that He allows us to participate. Helping spread His hope has been the single most amazing thing I have ever done. I am very thankful that He allows us to be part of it.
We Are All Called!
When I first came to the Lord, I was very happy to sit in the crowd, listen to the message, and then wait a week and do it again. I think that is probably where many new believers begin their walk. On fire for what the Lord has done? Yes… Ready to spread the Gospel throughout the world? Maybe not so much.
What we must understand though is the fact that spreading the Gospel with its intended reach takes many hands. Once we make the Lord our master, we must be ready to do as He needs and go when He commands. There are so many jobs in the church, each with an intended purpose and particular skill set needed to accomplish them. Obviously, each church needs a pastor. That person has a unique skill set. He must be able to demonstrate a proper knowledge of the Word and then be able to communicate that clearly to other church members. Maybe the Lord is calling you to that, but take heart if He is not. The Lord needs the skill set He has already developed within you. Maybe you have a musical talent that can be used on the worship team. Are you an artist that could help develop captivating multi-media. Maybe the Lord has placed a business sense in you that could help you in a treasury position. Maybe the Lord has given you a heart for children’s ministry. There are countless positions that are needed to fill, and the Lord has one in mind specifically for you. After all, what would a church full of pastors look like? What would a church full of treasurers look like? Lots of spiritual guidance and a minimal amount of financial planning, or lots of financial planning without spiritual guidance. The point is this... it takes many talented hands for a church to succeed.
Just Do It!
Do you have talent but are waiting on a calling from the Lord? Are you waiting for Him to speak directly? My encouragement is this… if you have a talent that is usable in a godly way to spread the Gospel, just do it! If you are really efficient in cleaning, help clean the church. This is a very important part of any ministry, especially in the light of Covid-19. Do you relate well to children? Jump into the children’s ministry. We all have God-given talents, get out there and use them!
God does not want us sitting on the sideline as others do the work needed to spread the Gospel. Whatever the Lord has blessed you with for talents, use them! Do not wait on some miraculous calling, the Lord gave you certain talents to use to spread His Word. With our many hands, with our many talents, we can reach the world… the whole world! That is pretty amazing if you ask me!
2 Thessalonians 2:14 (NKJV)
14 He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
