Romans 1:8 (NKJV) 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
Have you ever stopped and thought about your reputation? Have you ever really wondered what people think of your past? Have you truly considered whether people see the Lord working in your life or not? Paul is telling the Romans here that their faith is spoken of throughout the entire world. As a follower of Christ, isn’t that our goal? How Do I Get There? We have talked a lot about the world around us, and that hateful, evil world is not getting any better. We have to be believers that are not succumbing to the pressures of this world. We should be kept apart from it. Later in Romans 12:2 Paul will remind us that we are not to conform to this world… (2) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God… That is very easy to say, and it is a very easy verse to memorize, the question is how to we guard ourselves against conforming to this world? Focus Must Remain On Christ Jeremiah 29:13 reminds us… (13) And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart… When we put our entire focus on seeking the Lord, He will make Himself known to us. But, we must seek Him with our whole heart. The times I find myself conforming to this world is when I lose that absolute focus. When we allow our focus to wander, our faith will flounder as well. If we are to stand out in this world, our focus cannot be on the things of this world. Absolute focus on Christ leads to absolute faith, faith that will be spoken of throughout the community. We Cannot Care What The World Thinks Proverbs 29:25 offers… (25) The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe… We cannot worry about what man thinks of us, because when we care about what man thinks of us, it leads to ruin. Think about the things that can be affected if we fear what man thinks of us. Prayer… Do you allow the world to dissuade you from praying? Prayer is our lifeline to the Lord. Through prayer, we receive encouragement, guidance, and strength. Prayer is essential. Study… It’s a sunny day, do you pull out your Bible and start studying or do you shy away from opening it in public? Worship… You do not have to break out the latest Lauren Daigle song to worship, but 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us… (18) in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you… Your thankfulness may be shown in a number of ways, and it should be shown in both public and private places. When we pray, study, and worship in public, the world will see the Lord working in us! Closing Thoughts: Do we live out our faith in such a way that it is spoken of throughout our community, or do we resemble the world more than we would care to admit? It is an important question. When you live your life completely sold out for Christ, the world will take notice of your uncompromising faith. 2 Timothy 1:8 (NKJV) 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God.
