Ignore The Noise

Psalm 1:1-2 (NKJV)

1 Blessed is the man

Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,

Nor stands in the path of sinners,

Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,

And in His law he meditates day and night.

The world around us can make a lot of noise, it can distract us from the one thing we need the most, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! The enemy distracts us with sin, discourages us with defeat, and uses every weakness we have against us. Praise the Lord we have a relationship with the One that can keep us from all of these things. Better than that even, He truly loves us and wants to see the best for us.

Do Not Walk In The Counsel Of The Ungodly

There is nothing this world has to offer us, absolutely nothing. While we know this in our hearts, it is sometimes hard to ignore the noise as the world tries to give us counsel. As followers of Christ, we should be seeking godly wisdom. James 1:5 promises godly wisdom for those who seek it. Why would we seek counsel from the world when the Lord provides abundantly?

Do Not Stand In The Path Of Sinners

Ever hear of the term guilt by association? We see it time after time, Christians following far too close to worldly sinners. It is important to have a relationship with those you are surrounded by, but it must be with the purpose of being the light to the world. When we stand in the path of sinners we run the very real risk to succumbing to the world, as they already have.

Do Not Sit In The Seat Of The Scornful

I actually like how the CSB translates this verse. Instead of using the word scornful, it uses the word mockers. Think about it, if we allow ourselves to sit with the mockers, what does that say about our relationship with the Lord? You certainly would not sit with people that are mocking your spouse or children, so why would you tolerate those who are mocking your heavenly Father? It is okay that those around you may not believe the things you believe, it is quite another to mock the Lord. We cannot tolerate the mocking of our God.

His Law Should Be Our Delight!

Instead of walking with the ungodly, in the path of sinners, as they mock our God, we should be delighting in the Word of the Lord! The idea here is that we should be in the Word day and night. There is certainly room in the believer’s life to minister to a world that so desperately needs it, but that should not be where our focus is. Our focus should be on His law, and we should be meditating on it day and night.

Closing Thoughts:

Blessed indeed is the man that avoids the mockers. We will face mockers at every turn in our life. We should absolutely love those people. We should be providing a godly example to the world. But, no amount of evangelism should come at the cost of our walk with the Lord. We must put our eyes on Him and leave our focus there!

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV)

13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
