Imagining Heaven

John 14:3 NIV

3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Have you ever imagined what Heaven will be like? I believe it’s going to be far better than anything we’ve experienced here on earth! There will be more joy than we’ve ever known. There will be no more pain or sorrow. Jesus himself will wipe away the tears we have cried!

Heaven sounds like a great place to spend eternity! While a lot of Heaven is left to our imaginations, there are scriptures that give us hints into what heaven will be like.

Heaven is a place that was made for us, where we get to spend eternity with the Almighty. Numerous times, it is referred to as “paradise”. He prepared a paradise for us! Isn’t that exciting!? Revelation 7:16-17 says… “They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes”.

I imagine when we are spending eternity worshiping God, we will finally feel whole. We will be doing exactly what we were made to do. There will be no doubts, only love. We will love and be loved. Revelation 21:4 says… “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Not only will heaven be special because we get to spend time with Jesus, but the place itself will be magnificent too. Revelation 21:9-11…“‘Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.’ And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal”.

The light from heaven won’t come from the sun, instead, it will come from God. “They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever” (Revelation 22:4-5).

Closing thoughts:

Heaven may be hard to imagine, but nevertheless, it will not disappoint us!

Philippians 1:21 NIV

21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

1 Corinthians 2:9 NIV

9 However, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” – the things God has prepared for those who love him.
