Live Completely Sold Out For Christ

Matthew 22:37 (NKJV)

37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

I will never forget the first time I heard the term “sold out for Christ”. My pastor was delivering a very powerful message and finished by telling us that we should live a life completely sold out for Him. I had never heard this term before and was almost captivated by the thought… that is exactly where we need to be! But, what does it mean to live completely sold out? Is it something that is even attainable?

If we love the Lord with all our heart, with all our soul and with all of our mind, that should naturally lead to a life completely sold out for Him! In all things, we should be living a life that is pleasing to the Lord. Where does this start? Loving the Lord with all of our minds. In order to live a sold out life, we must know the scripture and apply it to our lives in a meaningful way. We should be in constant study to examine His commandments and instructions to follow said commandments.

What does it look like to love the Lord? 1 John 5:3 tells us that to love the Lord is to keep His commandments and that they should not be burdensome. We know that the Lord has certain commandments for us, in keeping those commandments we show the love and respect we have for Him. Of these commandments, which is the greatest? that we love our neighbor as ourselves. That is a very tough task sometimes. It makes sense though, as we are all equally His children, none of us have more favor in the Lord than any other, there is no favorite child with our God.

If we are to live a life completely sold out, we should look a bit different from the world too. 1 John 2:15 tells us not to love the world or the things in it. Are we sold out for the things of this world or the things of our eternal destination? If we are living this life to gain rewards in the Kingdom, it is a lot easier to avoid sin. Our behavior should reflect our Savior more than it reflects our surroundings. Bottom line… people should know we are Christian by our actions, if people around you have to wonder if you are Christian or not, something probably needs to change.

Closing Thoughts:

We have a chance to show this world what it looks like to live for Christ, to live for the eternal instead of the earthly, to strive to reflect Jesus more and more every day. If that is not where you have been, start today! Let the world see Jesus through you instead of a reflection of itself.

Philippians 1:21 (NKJV)

21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
