Love, Abhor & Cling

Romans 12:9 (NKJV) 9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.

I hate to be the one that keeps bringing it up, but the world is a mess. Hatred is running wild, ethics are questionable at best, people believe they decide what is right and wrong on an individual basis, and now there are murder hornets… seriously, what on earth is happening! I am very thankful that our God is still on the throne and the words of the Bible still ring true today. Here Paul delivers the Christian life in a nutshell. This is what we should spend our time striving towards. Avoid the hate, base your ethics on the Word, depend on the Bible to determine what is right and wrong… murder hornets, well, not sure what to do about them. Love Without Hypocrisy Real love is not hypocritical, plain, and simple. When we love, it should be done with a true heart. There is no sense in trying to mask your true feelings toward a person or situation. A fake can be seen from a mile away. I think at times we as Christians can fall into this trap rather quickly. We all want to be seen as a loving brother or sister in Christ. But, if that emotion is not backed by true love in your heart, it is painfully obvious. Does that mean you should give up? Absolutely not! The world needs Christians to step up with a sincere love for those around us. Sincere love can change the world! Abhor What Is Evil We must come to a place where we truly hate sin, despise it. Think about it, sin is what placed our Savior on the cross. I think too often we become numb to sin. Sin surrounds and engulfs us on a daily basis, it is literally everywhere. We have to get to the place where we see it for what it is and avoid it with a passion. As much as we love grace and mercy, we should hate sin. Cling To What Is Good Cling to those things that lead us to God. Covet a true understanding of His commandments. Attach yourself to Jesus. We already covered it in a different devotional, but we should be living as though Jesus is right next to us. We should cling to Him. The closer we are to the Lord the less likely we are to have hypocrisy and sin in our lives. Cling to what is good, who is good? Only Jesus! Closing Thoughts: If we love without hypocrisy and truly hate evil, it will lead naturally to clinging to what is good! The world needs us to love sincerely, the world needs to see us hating evil acts, and we need to cling to Jesus through it all! 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV) 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
