Love Your Lord

Matthew 22:37–38 (NKJV)

37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment.

We oftentimes read a verse like this and think “of course I love the Lord.” This, of course, is easily justifiable based upon the love He has for us, a love that led Him to the cross. But, when we really examine the love we have for Him, are we really loving Him with our heart, soul mind.

We Speak Love

I will not dwell on this one too much because the last few devotionals spoke about how easy it is to love the Lord with lip service. But it is easy to say we love the Lord with all we have, it is quite different to live it out. As we go through this life, we must guard against convincing ourselves the words coming out of our mouth align with the feelings we have for Him. If the two do not align, we must quickly get ourselves back on track.

Love The Lord With Your Mind

It may sound bizarre to love the Lord with our mind, how would we love anything with our mind? Loving Him with our mind is simply studying His Word. We should be meditating on His Word day and night. If we are in a relationship with someone, whether that be a spouse or good friend, we should desire to get to know that person more. The way we get to know the Lord more is a deep study of the Bible. The more we get to know the Lord, the more we should want to dig deeper. Do you love the Lord enough to study continually?

Love His Children

We can speak the words “I love you, Lord,” but if we love Him, we must also love His children. If you are lucky enough to have children of your own, you know how you feel when they are treated unfairly. If our children are being picked on, we instinctively have negative feelings toward the offending party. If we love the Lord, we should love His children. We are all children of God so we should love and care for everyone!

Closing Thoughts:

The Lord has done so much for us, we may never be able to repay Him for it, but we can be children that have a deep respect and love for Him. We should love Him with our heart, soul, and mind. If you do not have that closeness with the Lord, seek it today!

1 John 4:19 (NKJV)

19 We love Him because He first loved us.
