James 4:14 (NKJV)
14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
We all have a tendency to think we have many days left, and hopefully, that is the case. The truth of the matter is, however, none of us know the time nor the day we will return home to be with the Lord. We also do not know when the Lord is going to return either. This makes it vital that we make every day count. We cannot take our time here for granted.
Spending Our Time For His Glory
Our hearts must be for the lost souls around us. Each and every day we pass by those that do not know the Lord yet. As we go about our day we must be mindful that our opportunities to reach the unsaved are truly numbered. We have a set number of days to spread the Gospel before it is time to go to our eternal home. Do not allow opportunities to slip away, have the boldness we spoke about in yesterday’s devotional to reach a world that so desperately needs Jesus.
When it is all said and done, how is your life going to look? If you are following the two commandments in Matthew 22:37–39 it should look like love… (37) Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind, when we think of the cost He paid because of the love He had for us, this should come very naturally. The second part can be a little more difficult, love your neighbor as yourself. What a difference we can make by simply loving our neighbor.
Psalm 146:2 offers a wonderful reminder… (2) While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being… Take a moment right now to think about all the Lord has done for you. Seriously, take a few minutes and think about the things the Lord has provided. Think about your family, think about your friends, think about your health, safety, and even if you do not have any of these… think about His promise, Ephesians 2:8–9 tells us… (8) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (9) not of works, lest anyone should boast… Salvation by grace, not by works! Think about that promise, salvation not through work but salvation through the love He has for us. If I look back on my life, no amount of work could have erased the sins of my past. Oh, how we should live every moment in continual praise for that promise!
Our days are numbered according to His will. While we may not like it, we do have a limited amount of days to spread the Gospel, to love our neighbor, and give Him praise. Do not allow a single day to pass without doing all three of these things.
Proverbs 27:1 (NKJV)
1 Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
