Mission Trip To...

Mark 16:15

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

The Great Commission! Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. This verse has helped God’s message of salvation spread through every corner of the world. This is a wonderful thing. This verse has helped us get out of our comfort zone, fly across the globe, and preach boldly from the Bible. It has also pushed those with the ability to translate the Word in every imaginable language. But what if we thought less globally and much closer to home?

Go Into All The World Does Not Mean We Have To

When we are called to mission work, it is a glorious thing, it truly is. Once again we are reminded of God’s heart for all people… 1 Timothy 2:4 (4) who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth… He desires all men to be saved, not all men in Africa, not all men in Brazil, not all men in third-world countries… When He says all men, I think that is probably what it means. It does not matter the translation of your Bible, all men probably means all men! All men in Maine, all men at Walmart, all men at Dunkin Donuts, all men at your workplace, all men in your ATV club… all men.

We Need God More Than Ever

The need for the Gospel to spread from town to town is greater than ever before. Romans 10:8–10 reminds us… (8) But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): (9) that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (10) For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation… Our society as a whole could not be further from the truth in this scripture. We have a society that does not confess with their mouth because they do not submit to anything other than self. As a society, we do not believe in our heart that God has raised Him from the dead because our society would rather believe we came from pond scum than our awesome God. In a society of people who create their own individualized morality, there is simply no room for godly righteousness.

God Has Called You To Your Town

I do not want to discredit global missions at all. There is great power in these programs and lives are changed forever because of them. But, think about it, how long does it take to sponsor and plan a single mission trip? Weeks, months, sometimes years. How long does it take to go to Walmart? Well, when there is no fear of a virus that has the potential to spread to 0.0052% of the population. On a normal day, it only takes a few minutes to get to Walmart. That is your mission field, God is calling you to your hometown, that is where you can make the greatest impact!

Closing Thoughts:

Your largest mission field is within walking distance, go collect the low-lying fruit!

Acts 20:24 (NKJV)

24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
