Peace With Enemies

Proverbs 16:7 (NKJV)

7 When a man’s ways please the Lord,

He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

For the Christian, peace and love should always be the goal. We should be looking at the world around us with both peace and love as our mindset. Everything we do and say should be promoting peace and demonstrating love. When we are truly submitted to the Lord, these goals should be accomplished with very little effort. How does the strength of our walk lead to peace and love?

Peace Is The Goal

Romans 12:18 reminds us… (18) If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men… If possible we should live without contention between others. Now, it is important to point out the “if” there. If it is possible, sometimes we will not be able to have peace between all people. While we clearly are not going to have peace 100% of the time, that should absolutely be the goal. Why should this be the goal? Because our heart should always be that everyone comes to a saving knowledge of Christ. If we have contention with people, how are we going to lead them to the loving arms of Christ? Peace must always be the goal.

Love People

1 Corinthians 16:14 offers us the following reminder… (14) Let all that you do be done with love… Everything we do should be done out of love. Love has to be at the heart of everything we do. When you love those around you, people will see and experience the love of Christ through you. It is a beautiful thing!

Following His Commandments

Jesus says in John 14:15… (15) “If you love Me, keep My commandments… If we love Him, we should keep His commandments, pretty simple idea. What are His commandments? Matthew 22:37–39 gives us a broad view… (37) Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ (38) This is the first and great commandment. (39) And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’.. If we love our neighbor, would we steal from them? Would we do harm to them? Would we be envious? You can go right down the list of sinful behavior, if you love, all of these things would be avoided.

Godly Lives Lead To Peace With Others

When we love, truly love, there is no reason for strife between anyone else. If you love, others will have no reason to cause contention with you. If we follow His commandments, others will see that and respect it. When our goal is to please the Lord, it will most definitely lead to peace with others.

Closing Thoughts:

Peace comes from love, love promotes peace.

Colossians 3:14 (NKJV)

14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
