Psalm 23 (NKJV) A Psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
The Lord Is My Shepherd Yes, He is our Lord, yes, He is our master, but how amazing is it that He is our shepherd. Think about the love the shepherd has for his flock. He tends to the flock providing their every need. He protects the flock from the danger that is continually surrounding them. Then, if a single sheep goes missing, he steadfastly searches for the one. That is the love the Lord has for us. I Shall Not Want This is a hard one for us sometimes, is it not? But, when we really think about it, what else could the Lord offer that would be better than the promise He has already made. The Lord promises us eternity in heaven, what more would we need? If the Lord did not bless us with anything else, He would have given us entirely more than we deserve! Green Pastures & Still Water What a beautiful picture that is being painted of the Christian walk! There is nothing I can add here that the Lord has not already placed on the heart of David. Just take a moment and think about this promise! He Leads Me In The Paths Of Righteousness Stop and really consider all of the paths you could have gone down. I know where my life was heading and I know how easily I could still end up there today. But God has better plans than we do. He has a great path for us, we just have to be faithful to follow. I praise God each day for the paths He kept me away from. Fear No Evil We walk through this world with and its shadow of death, but we are to fear no evil. How do we avoid fearing evil? As we walk through this world we must keep our eyes firmly upon Jesus. If we keep our focus where it should be, the evil around us will not be able to distract us from our one goal, living a Godly life. And why should we fear no evil? Because He is with us… through the trials, through the tribulation, He promises to be with us! Can I get an amen? I Will Dwell In The House Of The Lord I love how David brings us full-circle in this Psalm. He shows us the Love and protection of the Lord, he shows us that He will guide us through this evil world, he shows us the beauty that does exist in this world and then he finishes with our eternal promise. Eternity in the house of the Lord is the goal, the aim, and the purpose of this life. Closing Thoughts May you turn to the Lord for comfort, love, guidance, and do so faithfully all of your days. There is a great promise at the end of this journey, a place to live out eternity with Him! Keep your eye on the finish line and be determined to finish well! 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
