Proverbs 15:1 (NKJV) 1 A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.
We have one goal during our time here on earth, a single focus, one true calling. While it is absolutely wonderful to learn and study the Word, (and it saddens me to admit it because I do love deep Bible study) that is not our main purpose. It can be rewarding to feed the hungry, but that is not our chief concern. Financial responsibility should not be our main focus, nor the gathering of money at all. We have a single responsibility, the rest of this life, the blessings, they are all secondary. The reason we are here, the item at the top of our to-do list, the focus of our being, is to spread the Gospel to all four corners of the earth. That is it, the one thing we are absolutely called to do is spread God’s redemptive promise. Everything we do must be done with that as the singular focus. If we fail in this endeavor, souls are lost. What must we do to reach these lost souls? Love. We must love all of God’s children. Soft Answers We do not have to agree with everything non-believing people believe. We have a very different worldview and that is going to lead naturally to disagreement. It is how we handle ourselves in our disagreement that is important. Matthew 22:36–40 reminds us… (36) “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” (37) Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ (38) This is the first and great commandment. (39) And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ (40) On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” The same love we have for our Lord, should extend to our neighbor, believer or not. If we are to love the Lord with all our hearts, with all our souls, and all our minds, we should love our neighbor with all our hearts, soul, and mind as well. The love we have for our neighbor should lead us to a desire to see them come to a saving knowledge of Christ! Harsh Words I have heard a number of people quote “nobody has ever been saved through a fight” and it is so very true. You are never going to win a soul for Christ through an argument. The only way someone is going to be won for Christ is through love and there is simply no room for harsh words in love. If you speak harsh words, it will lead to nothing other than anger. Speak Love If our goal is to see lost souls be found, we must turn away wrath with soft answers. I am not saying to sugarcoat the Gospel, we must speak the truth and sometimes that will be a difficult conversation sometimes. But at the heart of our Gospel message must be love. We must show them the redemptive love of Christ through both our words and actions. Closing Thoughts: There is plenty of harsh words, plenty of fear, plenty of anger in the world today… spread love through soft answers and avoid harsh words that can lead to anger, that is how we are going to save souls for Christ! 1 John 4:8 (NKJV) 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
