Stir It Up

2 Timothy 1:6 (NKJV)

6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

On a daily basis, we encounter many different situations that can force us into a certain passivity in our faith. We are bombarded with questioning, mocking, and sometimes flat out persecution. We can either succumb to those pressures or we can choose to stir up our faith all the more. I do not care if you have been in the faith for hours or a pastor with decades of teaching experience, in order for us to achieve our goal of advancing the kingdom, we all must step forward in boldness.

Where Does My Strength Come From?

Verse six encourages us to stir up our gifts, in 2 Timothy 1:7 we are reminded where that strength comes from… (7) For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind… Our strength should come from the Lord because He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power! If we are to make a positive impact on this world, we cannot afford to be passive in any way. Philippians 4:13 further promises… (13) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me… What does “I can do all things mean?” It means we have the strength to witness, it means we have the power to impact lives, it means we can do anything the Lord is calling us to do. We have the strength not through our own means but through His. We must remember where our strength comes from!

What Can I Really Do?

With boldness, we can change the world one life at a time. Our words are more powerful than we may think. Our words can be formulated to show the life-changing power of the Lord. Our words can bring a person into belief. Our prayer can encourage our pastor, or the evangelists in our church. Our words can comfort the hurting. Most importantly, we can show the love of the Lord to the unbelieving world.

Stir It Up Because We Have To

Look at the world around us… really look and examine it. What do you see? If we are honest, lost soul after lost soul pass us by on a minute by minute basis. How many people do we pass while shopping? How many people do we pass while going to work? How many people did we pass when we could attend sporting events? We have to stir up our faith because those lost souls are depending on us to be strong, those lost souls are depending on us to love them enough to have the courage to lead them to the cross. The price is too steep to allow passivity in our walk with the Lord. We must stir up our gifts and impact the world for Him today!

Closing Thoughts:

The world needs Jesus more today than it did yesterday and in the coming days that need will be multiplied. It is up to us to stir up and engage the gifts the Lord has given us to impact this crazy world. As believers, we cannot afford another day of passivity.

Matthew 5:13–16 (NKJV)

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
