Stir Up Love

Hebrews 10:24–25 (NKJV)

24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

How nice is it, after a long week in this dirty world, to just hangout with fellow believers? There is just something about fellowship that warms the heart. We spend the rest of the week battling our flesh, knee deep in spiritual attack, and stained with the sin that surrounds. It is just nice to sit with likeminded friends that understand all that we go through each week. But there should be a two very specific goals, love and good works.

Love

We must come to our believing friends with the spirit of love. Look back on the week, really examine the trials and tribulation you have been through. As must as you have suffered, your friends have too. John reminds us in John 15:13 that greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. Of course, Jesus is the ultimate example for laying down His physical life, but we can use that as an example in the way we treat friends. You may be asked to literally lay down your life, but most of the time we are being asked to lay down is our time. Loving a friend will often mean setting aside time for them. Even when the pressures of the world are baring down upon us, we should always be willing to listen to a friend.

Good Works

James 2:17 says… Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead… Meaning that if we truly have faith, works should naturally follow. How much easier is it to partake in works when we are being encouraged? Do you have a friend in ministry? Are you friends with someone doing mission work? No matter the work, those friends need encouragement. I would like to encourage you right now to reach out to your pastor with some encouraging words. Pastors out there are doing some wonderful works, they need encouragement as much as any of us!

As The Day Approaches

We are reminded in Matthew 24:36 that we do not know the hour in which the Father will return. Here we are told to exhort one another even more as that great day gets closer. We see all the signs coming together, that day could happen at any point. Our goal should be to be stirring up love and encouragement as He does make His triumphant return.

Closing thoughts:

Love and encourage your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Proverbs 18:24 (NKJV)

24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly,

But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
