James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Oh, what a wonderful reminder for today! Submit to God and resist the devil. Such a simple concept too, but how many times have you found yourself doing the absolute opposite? It may seem strange to us that have experienced His grace, His mercy, and His goodness, that we would want to do anything other than submit. The Lord is so very good to us, why would we refuse to submit to Him? The Flesh Is A Mighty Entity We understand that God’s plan for our life is vastly better than the one our flesh is trying to accomplish. The desires of our flesh can lead to pain, defeat, and hurt. God’s plan is and always will be for us to prosper. We have to make sure that we are not allowing the power of our flesh to overcome the promises of God! Resist The Devil In the Greek, it is better translated to stand against. If we stand against the things of the devil, he will flee from us. Think about it, if we were to resist the devil, he is not going to want to waste his time on us. But, we must be willing to resist. We cannot even get close to the enemy. I remember seeing a purse on my way home from the baseball card shop as a child… yes, I am that old… anyway. So, I was walking along the road and it was the dead of winter, I was with a group of about 4 or 5 other guys and half of them were encouraging me to try to get this purse, the other half were warning me the ice was not thick enough. I took one careful step, then another ever so slowly, I almost made it to the purse as the ice gave way sending me waist-deep in freezing cold water. I am not lying when I tell you that my pants were frozen solid by the time I managed to get home. Sin is a lot like that ice. It almost invites you to take those first few steps, then before you know it, it engulfs you. Much better to stay away from the sin than to fall right into it. The Closer You Are To God, The Closer He Is To You James 4:8... promises (8) Draw near to God and He will draw near to you… With God by our side, who can stand against us? Certainly not the devil, we know he loses in the end! We need to be believers that when the chips are down, we draw closer to the Lord than ever before. I know when I am drawing close to the Lord and when I am falling away. If you feel you are falling away, do everything you can to get closer to Him! Closing Thoughts: We cannot sit on the fence with God, we are called to be all in or all out. I would like to encourage you to live life completely sold out for Him! Psalm 145:8–9 (NKJV) 8 The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. 9 The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.
