Ephesians 6:10-11 ESV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
We need the armor of God just as much today as when these words were originally written. The devil is always scheming up plans to attack people’s lives. If we put on the armor of God each day, we will be protected from these evil schemes. God is our Savior and Protector. I took the following from the armor Paul wrote about in Ephesians 6:14-17.
Helmet of salvation – Isn’t it perfect that salvation is our helmet? We need to remember what Jesus has done for us every day in our minds. Therefore, it is fitting we should place it on our heads every morning. We can remember this because in order to place the helmet of salvation on our heads, Jesus had to have a crown of thorns placed on His.
Sword of the Spirit – Paul says the sword is the word of God. The word is “sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit” (Hebrews 4:12). When we speak the word, the devil trembles.
Shield of faith – Paul says this can “extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16). That makes me want to carry this shield 24/7!
Belt of truth – think of what a belt does for our clothes. It holds them up and in place. The truth can do the same for our faith. Since we know His word is true, we cannot deny or reject it. The truth can hold our hope and beliefs in place.
Breastplate of righteousness – Righteousness is now ours because of what Jesus has done for us. We have been forgiven our sins and allowed a new and righteous life with the living God.
Zeal as a cloak – In Isaiah 59:17, zeal is talked about as a cloak. Zeal is an enthusiastic energy. Have you met someone with zeal for God? You can feel the excitement radiating off of them. We can use this cloak analogy for ourselves as well, wrapping ourselves in zeal every day. I imagine this will send the devil running!
Try putting all the armor of God on today. What could ever stand against us now?
Ephesians 6:12 ESV
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
