The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:13, NIV

"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."

The following prayer was shared at a women's retreat a few years ago, it has been one of my daily prayers ever since. I believe it is meant to be shared and recited often. It follows Ephesians 6:14-17:

Dear God,

To prepare myself for the battle ahead, by faith, I put on the (14)Belt of Truth. The truth about you Lord, that You are a sovereign God who knows everything about me, both my strengths, and my weaknesses. Lord, I am Your child, and nothing can separate me from Your love.

Next Lord, I want to put on the (14) Breastplate of Righteousness. Through this I guard my heart and my emotions. I will not allow my heart to attach itself to anything that is impure. I will live today by what is true, not by what I feel.

Lord, this day I put on the (15) Sandals of the Gospel of Peace. I am available to You, Lord. Send me where You will. Guide me to those who need encouragement or physical help of some kind. Use me to solve conflicts wherever they may arise.

I now take up the (16) Shield of Faith, Lord. My faith is in You and You alone. Apart from You, I can do nothing. You have promised victory even now because I know there are fiery darts headed my way even as I pray. Lord, You already know what they are and have already provided the way of escape.

Lord, by faith I am putting on the (17) Helmet of Salvation. You know how Satan bombards my mind day and night with evil thoughts, doubt and fear. I choose to stop every impure and negative thought at the door of my mind.

Last, I take up the (17) Sword of the Spirit, which is able to defend me in time of attack, comfort me in time of sorrow, teach me in time of meditation and prevail against the power of the enemy on behalf of others who need the truth to set them free.

In Jesus name Amen!

Closing Thoughts

Our God is an awesome God, He has not left us defenseless in this life and He is certainly with us during troubled times. Praying His Word back to Him confirms that we trust His Word, it is a powerful testimony.

Ephesians 6:10-12NIV

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
