1 Corinthians 12:12–14 (NKJV)
12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact, the body is not one member but many.
I think it is fascinating how God works, it is amazing to just sit and watch Him as He does His thing. At the very top of the list of amazing things He does is the fact that He uses us to accomplish His plan! Think about it, the God who created the universe uses us to do His will here on earth. Every time I have ever been used in the slightest way to advance the Kingdom has been a tremendous blessing to me. If He spoke the world into existence, He never needed us to do anything, He chooses us to be active participants, to strengthen our faith. It is simply amazing.
How is God using you? Has He placed it on your heart to teach? Has He equipped you to lead worship? Has He given you the passion to evangelize? I think sometimes pastors (and do not get me wrong because there are a lot of pastors out there doing great things) get too much of the credit for advancing the Kingdom. Pastors at all levels do a tremendous amount of the work God wants to be accomplished, but they do not do it all. It is very easy to see a pastor as they are doing their part, but some of the other very important parts of ministry are done behind the scenes. So, just because the Lord has not equipped you to teach does not mean He is not going to use you, He may be preparing you for an equally important role in His plan.
Do you have unsaved friends? You know that person, you understand their thinking, you know how to approach them without offending, you know what will pull on their heartstrings, you know the buttons to push to deliver God’s message. Your pastor may not know that person as intimately as you do. You may actually be the only one that can effectively witness to that particular person. Scripture tells us that all the angels in heaven rejoice when someone turns away from sin in surrender to God. You could very well be a key part of advancing the Kingdom one friend at a time.
Maybe you are a comforter, you can help anyone during a difficult situation. I have experienced many people with this gift. Praise God they were there to comfort and support me when they did. Maybe God has placed in your heart the gift of compassion. There is nothing more powerful than the right thing being said at the exact right time.
Maybe you are being called to evangelism, maybe you are being called to effective stewardship, maybe you are being called to be a greeter, maybe you are being called to the parking lot ministry, maybe you are being called to lead an outreach program like Operation Christmas Child, maybe God needs you to vacuum the floors after services, or to work behind the sound desk, or to be a backup singer in the worship band… you see, God uses everyone to fulfill His exact need. Is it awesome to teach the Word of God? absolutely, it has been a tremendous blessing, but, there are so many roles in the church and if you ask me, each and every one of them holds equal importance.
God is preparing us for a very specific role. Not all are going to be named pastor, it takes many different people fulfilling many different roles to achieve the Lord’s will. Have you opened your heart to what the Lord wants from you? Are you ready to submit to His needs? Pray today seeking His will, and then fill that role with faithful obedience.
Matthew 6:10 (NKJV)
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
