The Enemy Lies

John 8:44 (NKJV)

44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

We have followers from all over the country so I am not going to mention any names, but there is a team in the NFL that we know how successful they will be before the season even starts. Ultimately they are going to lose, no matter how good they may look on paper, they will eventually lose. Satan is a lot like that unnamed football team. We know how this all ends for him because we are told through prophecy in the Bible. It should come as no surprise that he wants to take as many of us down with him as possible.

Tricks, Tricks, And More Tricks

Genesis 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.” Right. This is the original lie Satan spoke and it was a whopper. The problem with this lie is that it is so good (in a very bad way). Satan is able to repackage this lie over and over, with the same results I might add. Think about it… nobody ever woke up thinking they wanted to become a heroin addict that day. The enemy sitting there whispering… “you will not surely become addicted.” The list goes on and on, yet we find ourselves falling for the same lies over and over again.

His Intentions Are Obvious

John 10:10... reminds us (10) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly… The enemy is not coming here to be our friend. He is not coming to help break the chains of religion. He did not come to do anything other than bad. He came to steal, kill and destroy. What a stark contrast when we look at Jesus’ intentions. The Lord came that we may have abundant life!

Isn’t that the truth though? If you see an addict on the streets, is this not exactly what Satan has accomplished? He has stolen their dignity, killed their joy, and destroyed their relationship with their Creator. The enemy intends nothing but bad for his followers.

How To Resist The Enemy

1 Peter 5:8–9 offers a solution… (8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (9) Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world… We must remain sober and vigilant. We have to be aware of our surroundings in order to avoid the devil. We must remain steadfast in faith, leaning on the Lord for His strength and wisdom.

Closing Thoughts:

There is an enemy out there seeking to destroy us. It is very important to remain sober and vigilant so that we can avoid his trickery and false promises. Draw close to the Lord and He will protect you from the evil one.
