Isaiah 9:6–7 (NKJV)
6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
There is so much to enjoy during the Christmas season, the food, the gifts, the fellowship, the family gatherings, the food, the Christmas movies, and... the food. I may have spent too much time on Whole 30… but you get the idea, there is so much to do and eat. But, we are truly missing the point if we do not put the attention on the Child that was born.
As Christ is being pushed further and further out of the “holiday season,” we as believers must push back just as hard to put Him in His rightful spot. This, of course, should be done in the love of our Lord, not in spiteful ways at all. So as we go into our communities, we should be giving Jesus a gift this Christmas season. No, not frankincense, not sure where you would find that anyway… but, we should be doing what He came to do, spread the Gospel. What would Jesus be doing right now? He would be preaching the Good News, He would be loving on people, He would be feeding the hungry, He would be tending the sheep.
His name is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace… what better gift can you give to someone? Think about it, we could certainly buy another box of packaged meat at that unnamed mall kiosk, or we could deliver the hope that only Jesus provides. The packaged salami is great, but, we can offer everlasting hope!
Be thankful this season, not for the awesome gifts we bound to receive, but for the fact that unto us a Son was given, a Son that would change the entire world forever, a Son that provides the hope of eternal salvation. Unlike that sports sweatshirt that is too small and featuring a team you do not root for, the gift God gave us is everlasting.
We were given an amazing gift! Unlike many other gifts, this one should be re-gifted. As we journey through the Christmas season, make sure to share the love and hope you have in Jesus, it is without a doubt the best gift you can offer!
Romans 6:23 (NKJV)
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
