Matthew 24:36 (NKJV)
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
Time and time again you will find preachers and other followers of Christ trying to predict His triumphant return. Now, do not get me wrong, this is something all Christians should be looking forward to, but when it says “of that day and hour no one knows,” it is probably best translated… no one knows. We can look around at the world today and we can guess the return is near. But we are never going to be able to predict it. So, we must live our lives as though He could return literally at any moment. The question is not whether or not He is returning, but what our lives look like when He does!
What Are You Going To Be Saying When He Returns?
Ephesians 4:29 offers us this reminder… (29) Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers… I have been around many Christians that should be very thankful that the Lord did not return when they were degrading a fellow brother, or using corrupt language, or flat-out lying. Next time we open our mouth, allow it to be edifying to others, full of grace and mercy, instead of anger, untruths, and hurtful words.
Where Are You Going To Be When He Returns?
There are a number of places we should never enter as Christians, I do not think I need to list them all here. Matthew 5:16 gives us the following advice… (16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven… How can we let our light shine before men if we allow ourselves to frequent sinful places? Even if we are not caught up in a sinful act, it will still have that appearance. If we are going to be the light, we must avoid even the appearance of sin.
What Are You Going To Be Doing When He Returns?
Ephesians 4:32 (32) And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you… When Jesus returns is he going to find us being tenderhearted? Is he going to find us forgiving one another? Or is He going to find the complete opposite? The things we are doing on a day-to-day basis should reflect our Lord and Savior. If we are doing things He wouldn’t, we are probably missing the mark. I love how simple James makes it in James 4:17 (17) Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
What Are You Going To Look Like When He Returns?
If we know for sure that Jesus is returning, we have to be very mindful of our overall appearance. No, Jesus does not care about the latest fashion trends, He is going to care about what our souls look like. IF we follow His commandments our souls should look a lot like Him. We should look like, sound like, and behave like love. 1 John 4:8 reminds us… (8) He who does not love does not know God, for God is love… At the heart of everything we are in Christ, love should show through in our lives. If we do not love, we have to wonder if we actually know God or not.
Are you ready for the return of Jesus? We cannot afford to think the Lord is putting off His coming, His timing is both perfect and unpredictable. Only He knows when He is going to return to bring us home. Are we going to look and act like His children when He does return? Or, are we going to look like something completely different?
1 Thessalonians 5:2 (NKJV)
2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
